TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF BUSINESS RELEASES SCORECARD FOR LEGISLATORS

Most East Texas lawmakers won high scores from the Texas Association of Business in its biennial scorecard for the legislators, and none made a failing grade.
"From this scorecard, it's clear legislators are casting more pro-jobs votes," said TAB President Bill Hamond.
"It illustrates that keeping score and holding lawmakers accountable is an effective tool in building an economic climate aimed at creating and retaining Texas jobs."HOUSEBasing the scores on 16 key votes, ranging from the tax bill and worker's compensation reform to the clean coal project and a bill banning obesity lawsuits, TAB graded state representatives on a scale from 1 to 100.Of East Texas House members, Republican Rep.
Byron Cook of Corsicana scored the highest with 100, meaning he supported all 16 of the benchmark bills.State Rep.
Leo Berman, R-Tyler, was next, with a score of 93.
Anything higher than a 90 makes a member a "Champion of Free Enterprise," according to TAB."I'm proud to receive this score; it's my fourth time to receive the Champion of Free Enterprise award," said Berman.
